Can you believe it’s almost June?? That’s nuts! But it’s true. So, now that Memorial Day has passed, what holiday is next? Oh, I know! Father’s Day! If you’re looking for ideas for yourself, your dad, your spouse, or your grown son(s) who happen to be dads too, you might want to consider shaving gear. After all, every man grooms his facial hair. It’s really weird when you think about it. Men have hair. That grows. Out of their faces. Hey, remember Teen Wolf?!
Anyway, post-adolescent men are forced to shave. Sure, some more frequently than others, but still–we pretty much all shave at some point. The thing is, I haven’t met too many dudes that find shaving to be an enjoyable experience. The tugging. The burning. The skin damage. The time. The cost. No matter who you talk to, there’s always something when it comes to shaving. Well, what if you could be the one to improve that process, even if it’s just a little. Might be nice.
With that in mind, I thought I’d share some of my favorite shaving products. At the very least, putting one (or all) on your list, or picking them up for your old man might be a nice treat. No one likes spending coin on shaving products! Then again, maybe one (or all) of these things could become your, or your dad’s favorite(s). Either way, sounds like a solid Father’s Day gift option. So, here goes!
I’ve come to like Harry’s shave products. I jumped on board in the early days with The Truman model, since discontinued, but still functional. Now, you can get the updated chrome model, The Winston, with a rubberized grip. Nice to look at, with a comfortable weight, this handle screams class (okay, it doesn’t scream, ‘cause classy things don’t scream, but you get the idea). Buy it here.
If you go with the razor handle above, or know the dad in your life already uses Harry’s, get some replacement razors. These inexpensive five-blade razors come with a precision trimmer. I find them to be just as good, if not better than the expensive brands you find in store. Buy them here.
Some guys have a place to keep their razor. Others just leave it on the counter. Either way, if you (or your dad) gets a new Harry’s handle, you may need a new stand–just to ensure that it fits. Luckily, Harry’s makes a sleek and functional stand that looks good in a medicine cabinet or out on the counter. Buy it here.
If you’re going the Harry’s route, a travel cover might come in handy. It may not appear necessary, but a travel cover keeps the blades from getting gunked up while in a toiletry bag. Buy it here.
Alright, that does it for hardware. And here’s the deal: I don’t get anything from Harry’s for linking you to them. You can get certain Harry’s products through Amazon and Target, but the largest selection at the best prices come directly from Harry’s.
Wait, Greg, isn’t there a referral program? Yes. If you go the subscription route, you can get referral money credited to your account. But, I don’t use enough blades to necessitate a subscription, so I don’t have access to the referral bonus. They’re good blades that last a while! I just buy when I need them. The point is, if you’re getting Harry’s, get them through Harry’s. Okay, now onto the creams and stuff.
Note: Purchasing one of the following products by way of the following links may result in my receiving a commission. It doesn’t cost you any more, though, so it’s a win-win!
Baxter of California Shave Tonic
If the dad in your life has trouble with razor burn, a pre-shave tonic might help. Simply spray some on a moist, hot towel, and wrap it on your face for a couple 60-120 seconds. This gets the beard hair and pores ready for action. The cool thing? You can use this stuff post-shave too on a moist, cold towel (the cold closes the pores, keeping acne-causing bacteria and dirt out, and helps heal the skin). Buy it here.
Baxter of California Shave Formula
Once the face is prepped, you’re ready for a shaving cream. Right now, this is the stuff I use. It cushions the face and helps create enough lubrication to help the blade glide smoothly as it removes hair. Keep in mind, this stuff doesn’t really lather up like a traditional cream. Still, it creates a buttery slick surface on your face! Buy it here.
No, not that Jack Black. This luxury purveyor of men’s grooming products makes a mean shaving cream. And this one does lather up like a traditional cream. If I don’t use the Baxter stuff, above, I go with Jack Black. Buy it here.
If you go with one of the shaving creams above, it’s recommended that you use a shaving brush. Applying your shaving cream with a brush is not only really cool, it helped stimulate the hair and pull it away from the skin. This means less tugging, more clean cuts (of hair), and less irritation. It’s a win-win. Style and substance! This is what I use. Buy it here.
The downside of the shaving brush, is that it’s one more thing to deal with and store. To store it properly, you need it to dry. This means you’ll want to invest in a brush stand that will allow your badger brush to air dry. This is what I have. It’s pretty inexpensive, but still looks good on the counter. Buy it here.
Baxter of California After Shave Balm
Shaving distresses the skin. After all, you’re dragging a metal blade to remove hair from your face! To further repair and moisturize the skin, an after shave balm is clutch. I love this stuff. A nickel-sized dab patted on the face leaves the skin feeling soft, and refreshed, with a pleasantly cool sensation. Buy it here.
That about does it. If you’re looking for gift ideas for Father’s Day, either for yourself, or the dad in your life, these products will yield one heck of a shave. They help me keep the discomfort and annoyance to a minimum, which, when you boil it down, is what dads like–limited discomfort and annoyance. Happy Father’s Day to you and/or yours!

These are great ideas!! I may actually order the razor and stand for myself!
Thanks, Nikki! I appreciate you reading and subscribing. Just so you know, there are some ads for similar products geared more towards ladies sprinkled throughout the article. If you don’t see them on your first pass, just hit refresh until you do. I’m not saying you couldn’t get Harry’s, though. It’s a great product that would probably work for men and women. Keep us posted on what you decide to go with and how you like it. Thanks, again!
