What’s that you say? You already follow a few lifestyle blogs for parents, or spouses, or whatever? Not like this. You see, my wife is the primary breadwinner. This means I’m the primary caretaker of our home and our two boys. And you know what? The sad reality is it’s still uncommon to encounter a man who fills that role at home.
To clarify, I’m not saying they’re not out there. Guy at the park, and dude at music class, I see you. But, moms are the primary parents in parent-child (still too often called “mom and me”) classes. Similarly, when I head to the grocery store during the day, it’s predominantly women shopping along with me. So, yeah, my take differs from the majority of online parenting communities.
In addition, along the way, I will grapple with some “meaning of life” type questions. Also, since I’m bucking so-called trends, I might touch on other societal…stuff that catches my attention. I mean, the site is Philosophy of Dad, after all.
Finally, while I am a dad, this isn’t just for men. It’s for those wrapped up in the responsibilities of managing a home. If you happen to be a dad in my position, great. If you’re a mom in my position, wonderful. And, if you’re a breadwinning mom or dad who wants to gain more understanding, that’s cool too. In short, whoever you are, whatever your role, I’m glad you’re here.
